Capitol Region GATE Consortium Meeting Dates


The Capitol Region GATE Consortium, Inc. meets on a regular basis during the traditional school year. All meetings are open to educators, parents, GATE coordinators, CAG members and interested community members.

Meetings for 2010/2011 will be held at the district office for Sacramento City Unified School District at 5735 47th Avenue in south Sacramento. The building is called the Serna Center and it is next to Pep Boys just off Stockton Blvd. Park in the front, and check in at the front desk. Tell them you have a meeting in the Montana Room. Climb the stairs and enter the double doors to the right at the top of the stairs. Take the first right hallway to the end to the Montana Room. Call Barbara Branch at 916.622.5490 for questions or directions.

Purpose & Events

  • Provide a forum for educators and parents to network and discuss issues related to Gifted and Talented Education.

  • Coordinate activities that benefit students, parents and educators in the greater Sacramento area such as : monthly meetings, mini-conferences, awards & scholarships, State Department of Education updates, CAG Board reports, referrals & resources.

  • Serves as the regional committee for California Association for the Gifted - the statewide non-profit, volunteer lobbying and resource association.

  • Keep you informed about gifted education in our area and in California.

  • Meeting 1 – October 14, 2010 -9:00-10:30 am,
    TOPIC: What Everyone Should Know about Gifted Children and their Learning Needs – participants will receive the new CAG Publication called The Leadership Challenge
  • Meeting 2 – January 20, 2011, 9:00-10:30 am,
    TOPIC: How can you fit GATE into existing District Initiatives
  • Meeting 3 – March 31, 2011, 9:00-10:30 am,
    TOPIC: Small Steps that can Help Teachers with Differentiation for all Students Including GATE Students
  • Next Meeting, May 5, 2011, 9:00-10:30 am. Barbara Branch will share ideas and information for using technology as a tool for serving gifted students.

    We will keep advocating for our high end students and want to support you to keep that flame going in your district. Please contact me if you have any questions.
